The Cerro Martial winter centre is located 7 kilometers from the city center and it is possible to get there by public transportation (taxis or remises). The trails in this area are open to the public. Once you reach the base of the building, at elevation 315, you must go up the main ski run or take the variant that crosses the forest, following the course of the Buena Esperanza Stream. Both trails end at the panoramic viewpoint located on the upper platform, at 515 meters above sea level. The distance from the base of the ski slope to the platform is approximately 1,300 meters, so the ascent on foot can take about 40 minutes, depending on the physical condition of each person. The distance to be covered by the variant is longer (about 1,500 meters). Once you get to the viewpoint, you can appreciate a panoramic view of the city, the Beagle Channel, and the surrounding mountains. From this point the trail that leads to the Martial Glacier itself, which has a distance of 1,600 meters. It is worth mentioning that this trekking is of high difficulty, so extreme precautions should be taken before starting the ascent up the mountain.
Just 5 minutes from the city, the surroundings of the Louis Martial Protected Natural Area, works in winter as a ski slope and learning winter sports, including not only snowboarding and alpine skiing, but also cross-country skiing - also known as cross country or Nordic Ski. In summer it is an active center for trekking and hiking.
