Ice skating has a long tradition in Tierra del Fuego, since it was the custom of its first settlers to practice it when lagoons froze during winter.
Today it is possible to enjoy this sport in downtown Ushuaia, surrounded by the Beagle Channel and the magnificent view of the mountain range.
The skating rink is located next to the Polideportivo Municipal building and has skate rental service and classes provided by instructors from the Club Andino Ushuaia. It can be accessed walking along the Prefectura Naval Avenue, which borders the coast.
Another option to practice this activity in the outskirts of Ushuaia is the Cerro Castor winter resort, which has an artificial ice rink at its base, with equipment rental service and instructors. This complex is located 26 kilometers from the city and can be accessed by taxis or tourist buses.
