The Beagle Channel harbors a surprising world beneath its waters. Giant brown algae form underwater forests inhabited by starfish, jellyfish, sea urchins and king crabs. In this unique habitat also lie the remains of ancient shipwrecks, waiting for an adventurer to discover the secrets buried in the southern sea.
In Ushuaia, diving can be practiced all year round, even in winter.  Although the temperature of the waters of the Beagle Channel is low, with an average of 4/5 Celsius degrees, the cold makes them very clear and allows the diver to get a good view at the moment of immersion.

Once below the surface, the underwater kingdom of the Beagle Channel is revealed in all its splendor. The sun's rays pierce the water, creating a fascinating spectacle of light and shadow among gigantic algae. Its scientific name is Macrocystis pyrifera and is considered one of the largest algae in the world, reaching 30 meters long. Its importance is crucial for the life of the Beagle Channel, since species such as sea urchins, starfish, nudibranchs, crabs, snails, bivalves and fish live in its crampons.

In addition to the marine fauna, it is also possible to see some scattered remains of the Monte Cervantes, a German luxury liner that sank in the area of Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse in January 1930.

For those who wish to practice this activity for the first time, there are operators that offer baptism dives, as well as more extensive dives in the area of the Bridges Islands and Isla de los Pajaros.  The boats that make the transfers leave from the dock of the AFASYN Club, located at the Pasarela Pedro Fique, west of downtown.
